“The LA Olympics 2028 is kind of a guiding star” : Novak Djokovic says there is ‘no limit’ on how long he wants to keep playing tennis

Novak Djokovic is arguably among the most successful tennis players of all time. The Serbian recently stated that there is no limit on how long he continues to compete at the top level. The 24-time Grand Slam champion stated that the 2028 LA Olympics is something he is looking forward to.
The Serb finally claimed an elusive gold medal at the Paris Olympics last year. He defeated Carlos Alcaraz in straight sets in the final, completing his list of achievements last summer. In the World Sports Summit held in Dubai on Sunday, the Serb revealed his ambitions of competing at the 2028 LA Olympics.
There have been several questions raised over Novak Djokovic’s ability to compete at the top level, against the likes of Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner. However, he has already brushed aside any retirement rumors, stating that he would compete in the 2026 season at the very least.
“I do want to keep on going. The LA Olympics 2028 is kind of a guiding star, but honestly, there is no limit. So, let’s see. You know what I mean? Let’s just keep going,” Djokovic said at the World Sports Summit in Dubai on Monday, December 28.
The Serb also stated that he still loves competing, and there is no reason for him to retire. “I love hitting the tennis ball, and I love competing. I was saying to the guys that I was talking to, the greats in football, that it’s really about passion and love, and as long as you really feel like you’re playing on a high level and your body holds on, why not?” he added.
Novak Djokovic will return to action in a couple of weeks at the 2026 Australian Open, as he looks to claim his first Major title since the 2023 US Open. Novak Djokovic managed to reach the semifinals of all four majors last season, losing to the likes of Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, and a retirement against Alexander Zverev at the Australian Open.
