“I’m still around, I’m hanging in there” : Novak Djokovic says Alcaraz-Sinner the best currently but he fancies his chances at Australian Open

Novak Djokovic cruised into the fourth round of the 2026 Australian Open, as he defeated Botic van de Zandschulp in straight sets on Saturday. This was the Serb’s third consecutive straight sets win as he looks to claim his first Major title in over 2 years.
Novak Djokovic sent a message to the likes of Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, who have ben world beaters over the last two seasons. While he acknowledged that the duo are the best on the circuit currently, yet he is still just hanging in there, and fancies his chances here in Melbourne.
Novak Djokovic claimed his 102nd Australian Open victory on Saturday, as he looks to add an 11th title in Melbourne. The Serb was dominant in his display, barring the third set where the Dutchman put up a valiant fight.
“It’s been a great start to the tournament,” Djokovic said. “Obviously things can change. “I’m not getting ahead of myself, last year I learned the lesson, got too excited too early, in some of the Grand Slams, playing really well and getting to the semis, and then getting injured in three out of the four. I’m still trying to give these young guys a push for their money. I’m still around, I’m hanging in there.”
Novak Djokovic optimistic about his chances in Melbourne
Last year, Novak Djokovic had to retire only after the first set against Alexander Zverev in the semifinals of the Australian Open. The Serb stated that he does not want to get carried away too soon, however, he backs himself to have an opportunity at the Australian Open.
“Alcaraz and Sinner are the two best players in the world, they’re playing on a different level to all of us right now. But when you enter the court and the ball rolls, you always have a chance. Particularly here, the court which has given me the most in my career.”
Novak Djokovic will now face Next-Gen star Jakub Mensik in the last 16 clash. This will be a tough challenge for the Serbian who has lost to his opponent in the past. However, the Serbian has plenty of experience on his side, which will be of vital importance in the all-important battle.
