“It is always the main goal for me to complete a Career Grand Slam” : Carlos Alcaraz reveals his first goal for the 2026 season

Carlos Alcaraz claimed his sixth Grand Slam title, as he defeated Jannik Sinner in the finals of the 2025 US Open. The Spaniard defeated his rival in four sets in the final, as he also toppled Jannik Sinner from the number one ranking. Carlos Alcaraz has now revealed his first goal for the 2026, which involves winning the Australian Open.

Carlos Alcaraz has won two French Open, US Open and Wimbledon titles each. If the Spaniard wins the 2026 Australian Open, he will complete his Career Slam. The 22-year-old stated that his goal was always to win the Career Slam, and he has set his sights on the Australian Open next year. He was defeated in the quarterfinals in Melbourne by Novak Djokovic in four sets this year.

“It’s my first goal, to be honest. When I go to the preseason to [see] what I want to improve, what I want to achieve, the Australian Open is there. It’s the first or second tournament of the year, and it is always the main goal for me to complete a Career Grand Slam, Calendar Grand Slam. So it’s going to be great,” said Alcaraz.

Carlos Alcaraz on replacing Jannik Sinner as the world number one

Carlos Alcaraz has replaced Jannik Sinner as the world number one after his victory at the US Open. This ends the Italian’s 65-week run at the top of the ATP Rankings. Carlos Alcaraz stated that it was his goal to reclaim the world number one ranking, and doing so at a Grand Slam event makes it even more special.

“Since I got the chance to recover the No. 1, it was one of the first goals that I had during the season, just to try to recover the No. 1 as soon as possible or end the year as the No. 1. For me, achieving that once again, it is a dream. Doing [it] in the same day as getting another Grand Slam feels even better. It’s everything I’m working for, and I’m really happy to be able to live these experiences,” said Alcaraz.

Carlos Alcaraz claimed the 2025 US Open title, dropping just one set all throughout the tournament. This was his second title in New York, after he claimed his maiden Slam here in 2022. The Spaniard also claimed the French Open earlier this year, where he defeated Jannik Sinner in a five-set thriller.
