“I would very much like him to win a Grand Slam” : Boris Becker hopes Alexander Zverev can break Carlos Alcaraz-Jannik Sinner’s domination

Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner have dominated world tennis over the last two years. The duo have won four majors each in the last two seasons, and have competed against each other in the last three Grand Slam finals. Carlos Alcaraz emerged victorious over the Italian in the US Open final a couple of weeks earlier to claim his sixth Grand Slam title.

Former Grand Slam champion Boris Becker hopes that Alexander Zverev can break the domination of Alcaraz and Sinner on the tour, and win a Grand Slam. The German has made it to three Grand Slam finals till date, failing to lift the title on any of the occasions. He was defeated by Carlos Alcaraz in the French Open finals in 2024 in a five-set thriller. Meanwhile, the German was defeated by Jannik Sinner in the 2025 Australian Open finals in straight sets.

Boris Becker had recently also questioned the attitude of the top ten players who have been unable to present a challenge to Sinner and Alcaraz. He had also praised Felix Auger-Aliassime for a brave show in the semifinals of the US Open against Jannik Sinner.

Boris Becker stated that he hopes to see Alexander Zverev win major tournaments on a consistent basis. He believes that this would great for the sport. Additionally, he also hopes that the German can rediscover his form, and qualify for the Nitto ATP Finals in November.

Indeed, Alcaraz and Sinner are clearly dominating the rest of the players at the moment. I don’t really understand why that is. Every player has to take a look at themselves and improve. Personally, I would very much like him to win a Grand Slam one day or regularly win major tournaments, because I respect him a lot and it’s good for our business. I hope he finds his top form again in the fall and qualifies for the ATP Finals,” said Becker.

Alexander Zverev has had a difficult time on the tour, both personally and professionally. After reaching the finals of the Australian Open, he failed to make a noticeable impact at any of the other majors. He was defeated in the quarterfinals of the French Open by Novak Djokovic, lost in the first round of Wimbledon, and was ousted in the third round of the 2025 US Open.
