“Marcus is a top player, and we appreciate his situation” : Hansi Flick talks about Marcus Rashford’s contract situation

Barcelona boss Hansi Flick has given an update on Marcus Rashford contract situation. The English forward joined on loan from Manchester United last year, and there are talks about Barcelona wanting to sign him permanently.

Hansi Flick stated that they still need to discuss about the situation, given that his loan period ends in a couple of months. Barcelona claimed the Spanish Super Cup last Sunday, when they defeated Real Madrid 3-2 in the finals. Marcus Rashford came on as a late substitute to win his first title with the Spanish side.

“His performances have been good so far, but it’s something we need to manage with Deco and the club. We still have plenty of time, months ahead. Marcus is a top player, and we appreciate his situation. We are Barça, and we are one of the best in the world,” said Flick.

“It’s like what I say about the players from La Masia. We give them the opportunity to play and trust them. If you want to play for Barça, we’ll be 100% behind you. That’s what I want to see from other players,” he added.

Barcelona have a three point lead at the top of the table, with an extra game in hand over Real Madrid. Their rivals are in a sort of a crisis mode, with Xabi Alonso leaving the club after their defeat last weekend. They also faced a shock defeat to Albacete 3-2 in the Copa del Rey over the midweek.

Barcelona will face Real Sociedad in a tricky away battle on Sunday evening, before they return to Champions League action next week, where they still have plenty of work to do. Hansi Flick also provided an update on Raphinha, as he confirmed that the Brazilian has picked up a knock, as he missed the training with the team on Saturday.

“Yes, he’s having problems after a knock, and we’ll see what we decide and whether he plays or rests tomorrow,” Flick said.
