Andy Roddick dissected Novak Djokovic’s 2025 season, and revealed why the Serb would be disappointed with his overall achievements on the tour. The Serbian claimed two titles this year, which includes the Geneva Open title, and the Hellenic Championships which he won in November.

Novak Djokovic failed to win any Masters tournament or a Grand Slam this season. He managed to reach the semifinals of all four major events this year, losing to Jannik Sinner in Paris and at Wimbledon, to Carlos Alcaraz at the US Open, and withdrew due to an injury after losing the first set to Alexander Zverev.

Andy Roddick believes that as per the high standards set by Novak himself, he would certainly be disappointed with his season, given that he is used to winning big titles on the tour. The former American tennis player described Novak as a part time player who could turn up at major events, and still end up being in the top four players of the world.

This age, last four. It’s as if he can turn on and off being a top-3 or 4 player in the world, and that’s Novak Djokovic. How do we judge this year against his career? It was like any year where he’s not winning a Major, for him, that’s probably disappointing. This was insane to watch this year. He was like a part-time tennis player who was the third-best in the world. It’s a joke. It’s so impressive,” said Roddick.

Andy Roddick also questioned Novak’s ability to compete in a best of five sets match, given his age and his limited participation at the tour level. The American acknowledged that the Serb is physically among the fittest for his age, however, raised concerns if he could still train at the same intensity as he would a couple of years earlier.

The question is, and he was questioning this after the US Open, I don’t know if he can train the way he used to. I would suspect you can’t train that psychotically, and I mean that in a good way, at 38 years old. And if you can’t do that, can you get your body to hold up over the course of two weeks at a Major best-of-five?,” Roddick added.
