“You have to be digging because one day the gold is going to be there” : Mikel Arteta confident about winning the PL title this season
Arsenal have been the most consistent side in the Premier League over the course of the last three seasons. The Gunners have finished runner-ups in each of their last three seasons, as they finished behind Liverpool in the 2024/2025 season. Mikel Arteta urges his side to keep pushing, and is confident about striking gold this season.
Arsenal’s start to the season is a tricky trip to the red half of Manchester, who have bulked up on their attacking prowess in the summer. The Gunners have the toughest start to the season, with a trip to Anfield in the third game-week, and a fixture at home against Manchester City in September.
Mikel Arteta stated this his side had been the most consistent in the league since the last three seasons, and they were eventually going to win the Premier League title.
“You keep digging, digging, digging and you have to be digging because one day the gold is going to be there,” he said. “That’s all the time. When I’ve been taught, when I’ve been educated, that’s it. For three seasons we’ve had more points than any other team in this league, which is incredible. That’s how you have all the consistency. Now we have to do it in a season to have one more point or the same amount of points and more goals different than any other team. That’s the objective.”
Mikel Arteta confirms Arsenal’s captain for the new season

Mikel Arteta has confirmed that Martin Ødegaard will be the club’s captain for the new season. After enduring a tough season last year, the Dane’s credentials were questioned. However, the Arsenal boss reaffirmed that the midfielder was chosen as the captain by an overwhelming majority of votes.
“My opinion is clear and it’s not just my opinion, it’s all the staff and especially the players,” he said. Declan Rice was one of the top candidates for captaincy, with pundits and former Arsenal players calling for a change in armband.
Arsenal have made some impressive signings over the summer, reinforcing their midfield and attacking positions. Mikel Arteta believes they have great versatility in their squad, and they can achieve great things this season.
“I think we have great versatility, very different qualities in relation to the opposition as well,” he said. “We can manipulate that and have some great cohesion within those units so we are very happy with that.”
