Boris Becker recently stated that Novak Djokovic is still the best player in the world, ahead of the likes of Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz. The German coached the Serb for a couple of years, where they achieved incredible amount of succcess.

Boris Becker believes that a 38-year old Novak Djokovic is still at the top of his game. He acknowledged the fact that he is not as physically fit as he was 10 years ago, but the fact that he is still playing his best tennis is enough proof for his statement.

“My sons, Noah and Elias, say that today’s athletes are better than those of the past. And since I’m a bit older, I say that Michael Jordan was better than LeBron James. Or I claim that Maradona was better than Messi. And they all say, are you crazy? Messi is by far the best football player of all time. I say, unfortunately, we can’t prove that,” Boris Becker said.

“What I see in tennis is that 38-year-old Djokovic is still at the top of his game. I mean, Sinner and Alcaraz are before him. And that a 38-year-old Djokovic can’t be as good as 28-year-old Djokovic because he’s just not physically strong anymore,” Becker added.

Boris Becker stated that given Novak Djokovic’s age, his ability to recover remains quite limited, especially in a Grand Slam, where one has to play a best of five sets match almost every second day.

“He can’t recover quickly and so on. And that’s why, for me, it’s proof that if a 38-year-old Djokovic is still the absolute best in the world, then the rest can’t be quite as strong,” he added.

Novak Djokovic managed to reach all four semifinals of the Grand Slam last season, losing to either Alcaraz or Sinner on three of the four occasions. In a press conference leading up to the 2026 Australian Open, the Serb stated that he showed a good level in 2025, and hopes to continue challenging the two frontrunners in 2026 as well.

Novak Djokovic delivered a fiery press conference ahead of the Australian Open, stating that he could defeat anybody at the first Major of the year. The Serbian stated that he feels confident about his chances, and he has enough self-belief on himself.
