“I feel like I can beat anybody” : Novak Djokovic says he fancies his chances against Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz more than ever at the Australian Open

The 2026 Australian Open is just a day away, as fans eagerly await for the first Major of the year to get underway. Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner emerge as the frontrunners at the Australian Open, having won four Slams each in the last two seasons.

However, Novak Djokovic delivered a fiery press conference ahead of the Australian Open, stating that he could defeat anybody at the first Major of the year. The Serbian stated that he feels confident about his chances, and he has enough self-belief on himself.

“I know that when I’m healthy, when I’m able to put all the pieces of the puzzle together on a given day, I feel like I can beat anybody. If I don’t have that self-belief and confidence in myself, I wouldn’t be sitting here and talking to you guys or competing,” Djokovic said.

Novak Djokovic also acknowledged that Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner enter as the clear favorites, given their dominance over the last two seasons. However, the Serbian holds the record for most Australian Open titles, and believes he fancies his chances most at the Australian Open.

“I understand that Sinner and Alcaraz are playing on a different level right now… but that doesn’t mean that nobody else has a chance. So I like my chances always, in any tournament, particularly here,” added Djokovic.

Novak Djokovic managed to reach all four semifinals of the Grand Slam last season, losing to either Alcaraz or Sinner on three of the four occasions. The Serb stated that he showed a good level in 2025, and hopes to continue challenging the two frontrunners in 2026 as well.

“I’m missing a little bit of juice in my legs, to be honest, to be able to compete with these guys at the later stages of a Grand Slam,” said Djokovic. “But I’m definitely giving my best as I have in ‘25, and I think I have done very well and challenged them on their route to the title. I lost three out of four slams against either Sinner or Alcaraz… We know how good they are, and they absolutely deserve to be where they are. They are the dominant forces of the men’s tennis at the moment. I’m still trying to be in the mix,” Djokovic added.
