“I have no intention of thinking about it in the future” : Carlos Alcaraz on breaking Novak Djokovic’s record for most wins in an ATP Tour season

Carlos Alcaraz stormed into the semifinals of the 2025 Japan Open, as he defeated Brandon Nakashima in straight sets in the quarterfinals on Sunday. The Spaniard recorded his 65th win of the season, and was asked if he is looking to surpass Novak Djokovic’s record for most wins in an ATP season.

Novak Djokovic holds the record for most wins in an ATP season, winning 82 matches in the 2015 season. The Spaniard stated that he is not looking to break the Serb’s record, and is focused on becoming a better player.

“Honestly, I’m not thinking about that,” revealed the Spaniard. “The future is uncertain, and it’s too distant a topic. “All I can do is give my best every day and continue to grow,” said Alcaraz. “To become a better player and a better person, I put in 100% effort in both practice and matches. I don’t worry about anything else, and I have no intention of thinking about it in the future,” said the World No. 1.

Carlos Alcaraz faces Casper Ruud in the semifinals of Japan Open

Carlos Alcaraz will now face Casper Ruud in the semifinals of the 2025 Japan Open. The duo participated at the Laver Cup last week, where they represented Team Europe. The Spaniard defeated Ruud in the finals of the 2022 US Open to lift his first ever major title.

Carlos Alcaraz has had a terrific year on tour, winning two Grand Slam titles, and reaching three consecutive major finals. He also reclaimed his world number one spot from Jannik Sinner after defeating him in the finals of the 2025 US Open earlier this month.

Carlos Alcaraz has won last five out of the six tournaments he has competed in, with his sole loss coming against Jannik Sinner in the finals of Wimbledon. With already five ATP titles, and two Grand Slam titles to his name this season, the Spaniard will look to end his season on a high.
