“The first goal and the main goal is to win a Grand Slam” : Taylor Fritz shares his goals for the 2026 season

Taylor Fritz has revealed his goals for the 2026 season, as we draw closer towards the end of the current season. The American tennis player revealed that his main goal was to win a Grand Slam next year, and then target a world number one ranking.

After reaching the finals of the Australian Open last year, Taylor Fritz’s Grand Slam performances this year have no been too encouraging. The American’s best finish in Grand Slams this year came at 2025 Wimbledon, where he reached the semifinals, losing to Carlos Alcaraz in four sets.

Taylor Fritz suffered a shock defeat in the third round of the 2025 Australian Open, and was also knocked out in the first round of the French Open. At the 2025 US Open, he lost to Novak Djokovic in four sets in the quarterfinals.

“For me the first goal and the main goal is to win a Grand Slam and I think if I am able to win a Grand Slam, then that’s maybe something I can think about afterwards, is trying to become the World No.1,” Taylor Fritz said.

Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner have dominated men’s tennis over the last two seasons, sharing eight majors among themselves. Both players have won four Grand Slams each in the last two years. Taylor Fritz stated that he is working hard to compete against them, and emerge as the best of the rest if the duo fail to reach the latter rounds of a Grand Slam.

“If it’s not going to be just Carlos and Sinner then yeah, there’s only right now a handful of people that you might be able to contest. And I’m working really hard to be one of them,” he said.

Taylor Fritz played an instrumental part in Team World’s victory at the 2025 Laver Cup last week, as he defeated the likes of Carlos Alcaraz and Alexander Zverev in their singles encounter in straight sets. He is currently competing at the 2025 Japan Open, where he has managed to reach the quarterfinals, and will face Sebastian Korda.
