“That’s why I dare to speak openly to him” : Boris Becker reveals why he publicly criticizes Alexander Zverev
Boris Becker has often criticized Alexander Zverev publicly over the last couple of years. The tennis legend has lashed out at his countryman’s lack of desire to win Grand Slam titles, and compete with top players on the tour. Boris Becker explained his relationship with Zverev, and stated that he often speaks to his countryman personally.
Alexander Zverev has won some of the biggest tournaments on the tour, however, he is yet to win a Grand Slam title. Having made 3 Grand Slam finals, he has failed to win any of the finals. Boris Becker, who is Novak Djokovic’s former coach already stated that he has held several training sessions with Zverev in the past, and the two often exchange talks on tennis.
“I am often in private discussion with him when he asks me what he should change, what he can improve, and what he has to improve. And we have already played many training sessions together. That’s why I dare to speak openly to him, because he listens from time to time and does what I say from time to time. But tennis players are their own types. I also didn’t always do what my coach wanted me to do,” said Becker.
“I want Sascha to win Grand Slams” : Boris Becker

Boris Becker stated that he wants to see Alexander Zverev to win Grand Slam titles. The German had a pretty average year on tour according to his high standards. Zverev only managed to win the Munich Open, where he defeated Ben Shelton in the finals.
“I want Sascha [Zverev] to win. I want Sascha to win Grand Slams. To become the number one in the world. This year, February, March, he had the chance. But I have a job. I am a tennis expert, and I stand for credibility. If someone serves a double fault, I cannot say it was an ace. This is not because I mean it badly or critically, but because I simply know about this wonderful sport,” Becker said.
Alexander Zverev had a strong start to the season in Australia, where he managed to reach the finals, losing to Jannik Sinner in the finals. However, he underperformed at other major events in the year, losing in the earlier rounds. His end to the season was not promising either, winning only one match in the round-robin stage.
