“He’s going to put all this time and effort into busting his a** one last time” : Rennae Stubbs convinced Novak Djokovic could pull off a miracle at the Australian Open

Novak Djokovic ended his 2025 season with a title at the Hellenic Championship a couple of weeks ago. He opted out of the Nitto ATP Finals, as he now focuses on the 2026 Australian Open. The Serbian has claimed 10 Australian Open titles, the most of any player in the Open Era.

Former tennis player and Serena Williams’ former coach Rennae Stubbs believes Novak Djokovic could end Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz’s dominance at the 2026 Australian Open. The Serb has failed to win a Grand Slam title since the 2023 US Open, with all eight Majors being shared between Sinner and Alcaraz.

Rennae Stubbs believes Novak Djokovic will give it his all in Melbourne in 2026, which could potentially be his last appearance at the event. “I think Novak. I’ve said it over and over, I do think Novak is setting his sights. I don’t think he cared about the ATP Finals; clearly, he didn’t play it. I think he’s going to put all this time and effort into busting his a** one last time to win down in Australia,” Sttubbs said.

Rennae Stubbs believes only Novak Djokovic has the ability to dethrone Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, and their reign at the top. She also recalled how the Serb defeated Alcaraz in the quarterfinals of the 2025 Australian Open, where he came back from a set down to win in four sets.

“I think he’s the only one that can rock the cherry cart for Jannik and Carlos. Carlos has never made the finals there. Novak crushed him last year; one set was really good, but Novak was overall better. So I think Novak goes in there going, I know I can potentially get to a semifinal there, and I know I have maybe one more last grasp,” she added.

Carlos Alcaraz has struggled at the Australian Open over the years, and it is the only Grand Slam he needs to win to complete his Career Grand Slam. He has never managed to go beyond the quarterfinals in Melbourne. Meanwhile, Sinner has been the undisputed king in Melbourne, successfully defending his title this year, defeating Alexander Zverev in straight sets in the final.
