Ben Shelton was forced to withdraw from the 2025 US Open third round clash against Adrian Mannarino. The American was facing issues with his left shoulder since the third set, as he could no longer continue after the fourth set. Mannarino forced the match into the five-set after claiming fourth set.

However, Ben Shelton could no longer continue, as he was in visible pain. The American played through the shoulder injury during the entire fourth set, and retired as soon as the fourth set concluded.

Ben Shelton entered the 2025 US Open on a high, as he claimed the Canadian Open title earlier this month. The American also had a decent run at the Cincinnati Open, where he reached the quarterfinals. For the sixth seed to bow out in this fashion must be very heartbreaking for him and his fans.

As soon as the fourth set concluded, Ben’s father gave a signal, asking the American to retire from the match. With the final quarter of the season still pending, and with Ben Shelton having a real shot at the Nitto ATP Finals, this was a wise decision by his him and his team.
