“I don’t want myself to be nervous because of it” : Carlos Alcaraz on President Donald Trump’s presence during the 2025 US Open finals
Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner will clash against each other in the US Open finals on Sunday. This will be their third consecutive Grand Slam final meeting, with Alcaraz defeating the Italian in a five-set epic at the French Open. Meanwhile, Jannik Sinner avenged his defeat at Wimbledon, where he won the title in a four-set victory.
The President of USA, Donald Trump will be among the attendees for the 2025 US Open final. Donald Trump has been actively present during some major sporting events in the country over the past couple of months. He also handed over the trophy to the maiden champions of the FIFA Club World in July.
Carlos Alcaraz revealed that there would be certainly be some added pressure because of the President’s presence. However, he stated that he will not let it affect his performance in the finals. He also described it as a privilege for the tournament to have the President witness the all-important final.
“Well, it’s… I mean, I think that the tournament… It’s a privilege for the tournament having the president from every country just to support of the tournament and to support the match. For me, playing in front of him… To be honest, I will try not to be focused, and I will try not to think about it. I don’t want myself to be nervous because of it. So I think, you know, attending the tennis match, I think, is great for tennis to have the president in the final,” said Alcaraz.

Carlos Alcaraz has an opportunity to dethrone Jannik Sinner as the world number one if he defeats him in the US Open final. The Spaniard would also claim his sixth Grand Slam title, and a second US Open title.
Carlos Alcaraz has played at a very high level during the two weeks in New York. He has reached the finals without dropping a single set. The Spaniard admitted that he does suffer dips in performances during the game, something which was evident in the second set in the semifinals against Novak Djokovic. Carlos Alcaraz hopes that he can bring his best game against the Italian in the final on Sunday.
“Well, for me it’s great. It’s something that I’m working on, and just the consistency, you know, on the matches in the tournaments. In general, just not having up-and-downs in the matches; just the level that I start the match, just want to keep that level really high during the whole match,” said Alcaraz.
