“I’m not giving up on Grand Slams,” Novak Djokovic reveals it will be tough to beat Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner in best of five sets
Novak Djokovic’s 2025 US Open run came to end, after he was defeated by Carlos Alcaraz in straight sets in the semifinals on Friday. The Serb has reached the last four of all four majors this season, losing twice to Jannik Sinner, once to Alcaraz, and retiring after just one set at the Australian Open.
However, Novak Djokovic is not ready to give up on his Grand Slam dream just yet. The Serb stated that he will compete for major events in 2026, although admitting that it will be a big task to defeat the likes of Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner in the best of five sets.
Novak Djokovic was also appreciative of the crowd who has been behind him at the US Open. He stated that the fan support is among the several things pushing him to keep competing for the elusive 25th Grand Slam title.
“It will be very difficult for me in the future to overcome the hurdle of Sinner and Alcaraz in BO5, I have a better chance in best-of-three. I’m not giving up on Grand Slams in that regard,” Djokovic stated.
“I still enjoy the thrill of competition. Today I received amazing support from the crowd. Very thankful for that. That’s one of the biggest reasons I keep on going. The love I’ve been getting around the world has been amazing the last couple years,” the 38-year-old said.
Novak Djokovic happy with his level of tennis at the US Open

Novak Djokovic stated that he was happy with the level of tennis he produced at the US Open, however, he was not up there physically with the likes of Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner. With the Serbian turning 38 this year, and injuries taking a toll, Novak Djokovic has competed in only a couple of tournaments in the last three months.
“I ran out of gas. I’m happy with my level of tennis – it’s just the physicality of it,” Djokovic stated after the match.
Meanwhile, Carlos Alcaraz has stormed into the finals of the 2025 US Open without dropping a single set. He will now face off in the finals of the US Open against Jannik Sinner, an opponent he has faced in the French Open and Wimbledon finals this season. A couple of weeks earlier, the Spaniard claimed the title in Cincinnati, after Jannik Sinner had to withdraw in the first set owing to physical issues. The Italian has made it to the finals of all four Grand Slam finals this year, a feat which has been achieved by only three players in the past.
